Are the pencil oil pastels or soft pastel ? What brand ?
Hi Belinda... they are soft pastels. How I blend and mix colour should work with oil pastels I reckon.🙏😊

Mr. Porter, I have so much respect for you, sir. I try to do pastel portraits what I would like to know, sir, how do you build up the values without the portrait looking dusty and overloaded? Perhaps the paper I use?
Thanks for the kind words Charles... you could be right... it sounds like the paper you are using, Sanded papers are the best I have found... my favourite being Pastelmat dark grey. All the very best 😊🙏

Hi Marz, What surface are you working on?
I agree so much about the feeling the heart and receiving the energy back. I was painting an elephant from a picture once. There was something about his expression. I had a real feeling of connection with him and my brush strokes just felt right. It's the only way I can describe it. Beautiful picture.

Hi Dave. I have never worked with pastels but I love my polychromos color pencils. Can I apply the same techniques and tips on color pencils, too? I would love to become a patreon member on your channel if it will work for color pencils.
The way I mix colour should work with all mediums, it would be a matter of slightly adjusting accordingly. Colour pencils tend to be a little waxy so blending would have to be a little tighter in approach, where pastel are looser in application. I would suggest having a go with Patreon, at the moment it is only a small amount of money per month and you can cancel anytime you like. all the very best 🙏😊
